Admissions Criteria

We would love to offer every child a place with us here at Chestnuts, but with a maximum limit of 26 children per session and most children attending 5 sessions per week, we sometimes have to make difficult choices. In order to make this process as transparent as possible we use the following criteria when deciding places:

  1. We don't have a catchment area and accept children from the whole of Wokingham Borough, but give priority to those families living in Woosehill and the surrounding areas.
  2. We accept children from two and a half years old, but give priority to those who receive full funding from Wokingham Borough Council (children who are three years and above).
  3. We also give priority to children with siblings currently with us or who were with us previously.

As part of our funding agreement with the council, we keep one spare place each session so that we are able to accommodate families who move to the area part-way through the term.

Admissions Process

Some parents tell us that our process for admissions is not always clear, so to avoid any confusion we follow these steps each term :

  1. You may register your child with us at any time, and we will place your child on our waiting list once we have received your administration fee. Our contact details can be found here.
  2. We will send you an acknowledgement letter with an estimated start date, based upon our current waiting list, and in accordance with our admissions criteria.
  3. Each term, approximately 1/6 of our children leave to attend full time, primary school education, and a number of session places become available. We give current parents the option of changing their existing sessions and once this is complete we know exactly how many places will be available for new starters the next term.
  4. If we have a place available for your child, we will send you an offer letter by the second week of term, prior to the term your child is due to start. This will include details of the sessions we can offer, and wherever possible we will try and match your preferences.
  5. The offer of a place for your child will be held for two weeks. If we haven't received confirmation of your acceptance by this time, we will offer the place to the next child on our waiting list. Unless there are extenuating circumstances, we will not refund your original administration fee.
  6. Confirmation of your acceptance can only be made on receipt of the first half term fees. Details of our fees can be found here.

We hope our process is simple and straightforward to understand, but if you do have any questions don't hesititate to get in touch.
